Small biscuits
28/04/2008
A good gallery is a bit like a good biscuit.

When I was younger there was a small brand of biscuits called United's. They were delicious shortbread rectangles covered in chocolate.

They got swallowed up by some big manaufacturer or perhaps there was a scandal involving paedos which meant they had to be eradicated. Eventually they disappeared.

Who knows why?

A good gallery is a bit like a good biscuit. You remember the taste before you remember the wrapper and the name. Galleries are first and foremost as good as the art they decide to show. United were showing Dennis Roper when I last went. He was very good, very odern, lots of irony, lots of conceptually good work, and lots of very up-to-date techniques. I like him alot.

The gallery wrapper did not interfere with my pleasure. In fact I seem to recall I felt excited tearing through the foil skin entrance that was their open glass door... is the biscuit analogy still working?

Liking this?
