"Great value for swimming"
There's nothing glamorous about the Prince Alfred Park Swimming Pool but it serves it's purpose well. It's cheap - easy to get to, has loads of space to lay around in the sun - and is also close to my apartment (just a short walk across the park).
The pool is currently closed at the moment with a huge re-design in the process. Perhaps brining the glamour back?! The plans include a bigger pool, more shelter, updated changing rooms, some shops, landscaped sunbathing areas and a few other treats. I think this will bring the pool more in line with the one that can be found up near Broadway. I just hope it doesn't bring the crowds :( The one thing that was great about the Prince Alfred was that it always felt like a local pool. You always always saw the same old faces and it was never too busy that you couldn't comfortably get in the pool.
Let's hope the re-design is for the better. And let's hope it's completed quickly because it's getting hot and I'm dieing for a swim at my local!

"Prince Alfred Ool (notice there is no ‘P’ in it? I like it that way!)"
The Prince Alfred is my local pool and I often pop in for a quick dip after work or on the weekend. There is a big grass area and the buildings along Chalmers Street create a lovely backdrop.
OK, so it is a little ragged around the edges, and there are other more modern public pools close by, but I quite like the 70s feel (and for $3.30 for a swim, I’m not complaining!). City of Sydney Council are planning to upgrade it this year and I do hope they keep the retro styling. A few more shade cloths and seating areas would also be good.
It is possible to purchase a Multi Visit Pass (10 swims) or a Season Pass which are at discounted rates. Lockers are also available. It is only open during the warmer months (end of September to end of March). The water isn’t heated, but I have always found it to be a pleasant temperature. Or is that because it’s ‘p’ool instead of an ‘ool’? ;-)
