Valentines Delight
16/02/2008
My darling boyfriend Ian took me to La Sala for Valentines Day as a surprise (you can see his review below) and we had a wonderful evening. Overall, the food and service were excellent.

From the Valentines Day set menu, I chose the fig, goats cheese and basil salad to start, the chicken stuffed with mushrooms, pinenuts and parmesan for main and then the strawberries with vanilla marscapone for dessert. I could not fault the food, everything was delicious and the chicken was so tender and juicy. An appetiser and glass of wine were also included in the price.

There is a bar at the front of the restaurant (a good place to go to for a quiet drink, even if you aren't eating), then a sunken dining area with an open kitchen on the same level and also a mezzanine dining area. The interior is lovely - warm, welcoming and very tasteful. It's almost like an upmarket deli.

My only quarm was that they rang Ian on the day and asked if we could vacate the table by 9.30 pm for the next sitting. Our booking was for 7.15 pm so it wasn't as if we were rushing and we could've gone to the bar after our meal, but I just think for the prices you pay they shouldn't have done that. In the scheme of things, this is really not a big deal and I suppose you would get the same from most restaurants on Valentines Day as they are trying to maximise their earnings. But the rose petals on our table and the cute Valentines messages scribbled on the wall above the kitchen made up for it! :-)

I would highly recommend giving La Sala a try, especially for a romantic meal.
