"Cream of the crop"
We’ve woken on a gorgeous Sunday morning, well what’s left of it. Red wine and late night ricotta pastizies are a distant memory. Open the blinds, down a Berocca. Our goal is to replenish, and it has to be something good, no risks trying something new today. 'Le Petit Crème' comes to mind, a reliable staple, so Frenchy so chic café for late breaky. Our guests haven’t been there so we sell them on the idea of bowls of coffee and the famous eggs Benedict, “the best in town!” we squeal with glee.
The parking gods are smiling down on us today, as we park across the road from the Darlinghurst Road café, wedged between a day spa and car cleaners. If you weren’t looking for it you would probably miss it, like it’s tucked away only for privileged Francophiles. If you slightly squint you really are in Paris, café dwellers perched out the front of the very petite 'Le Petit Crème', soaking up some autumn sun, papers and coffees in hand, as time stands still.
All the staff speak in sexy European accents, a pre-requisite perhaps? They’re helpful and lovely, adding calmness to the busy cramped space.
A classic French café menu is spread across the black board that makes up one whole wall, a French mural the other. The omelets, baguettes and crepes are all tempting with fresh fillings like tomato, ham, mushroom and ricotta, but it’s just too hard to turn down the eggs Benedict. All four of us order the same, alternating between salmon and ham. The servings are huge, but you can order a half serve, which gets you a slice of sweet and spongy brioche, topped with smoked salmon or ham, a gooey poached egg and the Pièce de résistance, the hollandaise sauce, c’est magnifique! How they get the sauce to taste so good is a mystery.
My other half and our friends gulp down rich warm coffee, I’ve opted for a chocolate milkshake which comes out in a tall, icy cold, old fashioned metal cup. The chocolate is real and slightly bitter.
Once again we sit back, overwhelmed by our breakfast satisfaction. We notice the table next to us has ordered long crusty baguettes and French style potato frites, which looks and smells amazing. Perhaps next time we will be brave enough to try something else from the menu?
'Le Petit Crème' is truly a little joy, Sydney cosmopolitan at it’s best. C’est la vie!

"Kick start! "
Nice French restaurant, serving good food throughout the day. Be it the breakfast, brunch, dinner or lunch. The egg bennedict and hollandaise sauce were fantastic. The gruff chicken, scrambled eggs and bacon is also prepared to perfection. The place could be a little too noisy, but what else do you expect? The pricing is also decent enough.
